Senior Manager, Green Coffee Commodity Procurement - Downers Grove, IL

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree (+16 years)


Description:

• Procure green coffee, to direct, plan, control the Logistics Department.
• Participate in quality control and approval of incoming green coffee.
• Assist/interface with the problem solving/ solution development of internal & external clients.
• Assist in the development of Economic Stock Position and differential pricing formulation and execution of the corporate strategy.
• Manage client strategy and objectives.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Logistics - Direct all aspects of the raw material supply chain in conjunction with operations.
• Green Coffee Purchasing:
– Manage the buying within group guidelines.
– Monitor exposure - credit/financial/execution of vendors.
– Acquire and disseminate among the team market intelligence.

• Client Strategy and Purchasing - Lead the timely execution within corporate policy of client buys in conjunction with the others on the Procurement Team.
• Quality Control:
– Cup and grade coffee daily.
– insure that all tendered coffees comply fully with the quality specs of each internal class.

• Servicing Internal & External Clients - Good listening, communication and proactive/constructive problem solving skills on a timely basis will be employed daily.
• Market (Industry) Knowledge - Exhibit and maintain detailed knowledge of market mechanics and up to date industry knowledge of competing price values, volatile futures markets (NY/London/Sao Paulo), Industry trends and reconnaissance to support the value added needs, requirements and relationships of customer and consumer.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree.
• 5+ years with experience in Coffee including cupping, trading and value analysis.
• Must possess excellent project management, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
• Experience with JDE OneWorld and SAP a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with experience in personnel development, coaching and team building.
• Previous coffee roaster buying experience required preferably with institutional roaster.
• Basic knowledge of tea, tea trading and sensory attributes a plus
Highly trained sensorial skills with knowledge of value analysis necessary.
• Must have experience with both commercial grade and specialty coffees.
• Must be able to interact well with both internal and external clients.
• Previous supervisory experience a must.
