Description:

In this role this person will actively support the development of a sourcing strategy, translate strategy into objectives/action plans & drive execution of the objectives for assigned commodities aligned with the business/sourcing strategy & corporate goals.


Essential Functions:

• Lead collaborative multi-region/plant/division, cross-functional commodity teams to analyze spend, develop actionable supplier management strategies, and proactively manage the supply base within a given commodity.
• Understand and monitor current commodity market conditions/trends, developing technologies, supply chain capacity/ capability, product knowledge, customer requirements and supply/demand challenges.
• Guide the selection, development, and management of Strategic Suppliers to meet commodity cost and performance goals.
• Develop and implement supplier management strategies including supplier assessments and rationalization, negotiation for best total cost of ownership, risk assessment and mitigation to ensure security of supply and supplier diversity, continuous improvement, EDI, and procurement/research collaboration.
• Translate strategies into specific projects and action plans.
• Coordinate and drive effective implementation of such activities that include continuous improvement projects, technology roadmaps, and research collaboration as applicable.
• Prepares Business Cases, including ROI models, and effectively present new programs to Senior Management
• Manage the contract process to ensure all business requirements are incorporated with global strategic and preferred suppliers managed to maximize benefits across Genzyme and its affiliates.
• Establish a strong network and foster collaboration with customers, suppliers, key stakeholders, and team members.
• Implement a rigorous and disciplined process for managing the supply base including leading periodic business reviews, monitoring and managing supplier performance (quality, cost, delivery, technology, service, and leadership, risk etc.), managing supplier relationships, driving root cause analysis and resolution, developing and monitoring supplier improvement plans.
• Integrate corporate & divisional goals & objectives into suppliers metrics and initiatives when applicable.
• Establish, implement, report on specific actionable, measurable, achievable, time specific goals and objectives and related performance.
• Develop implementation and transition plans to ensure sourcing benefits are fully realized.
• Partner with Manufacturing, Production, Quality, and Technical leaders to identify supply chain opportunities in the commodity areas.
• Supply Chain opportunities may include and candidate must have a working knowledge of area such as: make vs. buy analyses, vendor managed inventories, inventory management programs, cycle time improvements.
• Ability to demonstrate through concrete examples that you have strong experience sourcing and managing one or more of the following commodity categories at a Global level: Biological products i.e. bovine serum, bio diagnostic kits and consumables, lab. ware, chemicals, filtration devices, final product packaging.
• Consolidation of global forecast data and communication and monitoring of compliance.
• Maintains Quality Management Systems as it relates to managing supplier requirements.
• Understanding of GMP, cGMP and other applicable regulations as related to the pharmaceutical/ Biotech industry.


Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and 10 or more years of experience or a Master's degree with 8 or more years of experience all in a Strategic Sourcing/Commodity Management role.
• Preferably managing biologic commodities in life science or pharmaceutical industries in a global matrixed organization with experience and exposure in advanced sourcing strategies.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, effective Team Player, self motivated, quick learner.
• Strong negotiations and communication skills (both oral and written).
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on a daily basis.
• Project management skills a must.
• Must be comfortable with making decisions, and working within a cross functional team.
• Capable of influencing and motivating others with new ideas and concepts.
• Proficient at thinking and acting strategically, championing change, and generating innovative solutions.
• A quick study, a demonstrated ability to recognize opportunities for improvement and engage in activities that will lead to improvements.
• Must have experience with Oracle, and MS Office suite for the purposes of data analysis and creation of presentations.
• Proficient with Business Analytics/Reporting.
• Must possess characteristics to address topics from a global perspective and international sensitivity in dealing with other cultures.
• Comfortable interfacing with all levels of Management, including senior management personnel.
• Ability to form close relationships both internally and externally.
• Tact and diplomacy skills.
