Procurement Mgr - Commodity Materials

Description:

• Responsible for the procurement of a variety of strategic basic raw material streams for BASF in the North American region.
• Establishes and implements regional procurement product strategies in conjunction with global procurement team and BASF business units. Approximate spend of $100 million + per year.
• Ensure the procurement, availability and production of raw materials at a competitive cost advantage.
• Develop strategies for the procurement and supply basic raw materials to North American Operation.
• Lead negotiation of contracts and administration of existing contracts for basic raw materials. Provide main interface with legal, tax, insurance, etc… in this regard.
• Lead and coordinate the development of supply strategies in a Global Lead Buyer Role and Regional Lead Buyer Role, as assigned.
• Collaborate and coordinate activities with 3 to 8 global procurement colleagues operating in matrix environment and managing remotely.
• Provide main liaison interface between NTP and Regional Business Units, as assigned.
• Coordinate communications channels, regular business reviews and jointly establish priority list for purchased products/services.


Qualifications:

Knowledge and Experience:

• Education background requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Economics/Business.
• An MBA is preferred.
• BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
• Prior experience should include 5 to 10 years industrial purchasing experiences and equivalent commercial experience chemical or related industry to provide knowledge of markets, technology, logistics and materials.
• Strong negotiating skills to strategically prepare and execute contracts with suppliers.
• Successful experience negotiating multi year contracts of significant spend ($ multimillion) with international suppliers.
• Requires very strong interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of manufacturing, business/marketing procedures, corporate, and purchasing policies.
• Must maintain an excellent understanding of purchasing and supplier relationships.
• Must work well with senior executive business managers.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills.
• Requires good judgment in making business decisions and handling confidential information that will directly affect the Corporation's performance and profitability.
• Understanding of basic economic principles, including investment evaluation (make or buy decisions).
• Fundamental knowledge of the principles of program/project organization and management.
• Ability to plan, organize and achieve objectives through persuasive skill rather than chain of command authority.
