Description:

• Develop optimized solutions and drive savings for new and existing supply streams by utilizing the BASF global sourcing network, sourcing tools/databases/processes, chemistry and technical knowledge, value chain knowledge, knowledge of chemical industry technologies and products, creative and strategic thinking, and strong teamwork skills.
• Working with Procurement Managers, and business unit personnel, identify and implement new sourcing opportunities for the existing portfolio of raw materials to optimize the supply base and deliver savings for the business units.
• Propose projects for cost reduction and identify creative solutions via in depth analysis including chemistry, value chain, and in-sourcing potential.
• Implement Early Procurement Involvement for new raw materials by ensuring thorough engagement with R&D groups for assigned Business Units.
• Screen the market for an overview on producers, pricing, availability, reliability.
• Communicate and document sourcing inquiries and results in the sourcing database.
• Identify and develop optimized source(s) and/or favorable supply position for new raw materials to maximize margin upon commercialization of new products.
• Working within the BASF global sourcing network, follow up on inquiries from other regions resulting in sourcing projects ultimately for sourcing of raw materials from North America to BASF in other regions.
• Support Procurement Managers in negotiations and development of procurement strategies via chemical and technology expertise, cost estimation and modeling, and value chain analysis.
• Establish and coordinate, or support strategic teams to drive high value sourcing, in-sourcing or out-sourcing projects.
• Screen North American chemicals producers and their technologies. Document as appropriate to ensure the information is available within BASF.
• Identify markets and potentials for supply of raw materials from North America to other regions, and collaborate accordingly within the BASF global procurement team.


Qualifications:

• PHD Organic Chemistry required.
• MBA or alternate business experience preferred.
• 5+ years total experience in Procurement, Product Management or R&D.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the following competencies:

– Strategic Thinking.
– Communication and Interpersonal Understanding.
– Results Orientation, Team Leadership and Collaboration.

• Proficiency/experience in the following:
– Negotiation.
– Sensitivity and risk analysis.
– Value chain expertise (chemical industry).
– Knowledge of chemical industry suppliers/product range/technologies.
