Description:
• The Commodity Manager within the Purchasing Department is responsible for the sourcing, buying, bidding, pricing, contract management and standardization for all OSU Health System Departments needing to procure supplies and/or services for their business operation.
• The Commodity Manager directs strategic sourcing, contract management, and buying functions for a range of like commodities.
• The Commodity Manager will work closely with a group of Senior Buyers, Buyers and/or Agents to manage large scale projects.
• Collectively they are responsible for developing and fostering business relationships within the five hospitals and related business entities of the Health System.
• The Commodity Manager identifies and leads cost saving and process improvement projects to the benefit of the Health System and its patients.
• The Commodity Manager champions strategic sourcing initiatives within their respective commodities, coordinating efforts with their human capital resources and providing expertise to drive the entire procure-to-pay process.
• The Commodity Manager develops and continually updates market intelligence on key suppliers and market solutions (Benchmarking) and is responsible for the development of commodity strategies.
• After contract award the Commodity Manager and his/her team own the key supplier relationships based on assigned categories and develop strategic account plans and conducts quarterly management meetings with those key suppliers to maintain and increase efficiencies.
Responsibilities:
• Provides administrative leadership and support for the Purchasing Department.
• Will work closely with University Purchasing, Finance, Accounts Payable, Distribution and Materiel Systems as a primary contact regarding issues and projects involving Purchasing.
• This individual is primarily responsible for category/commodity management and negotiation with external vendors to support the operations of The Ohio State University Health System.
• Other responsibilities such as project management as outlined in the duties and responsibilities section below and as designated by Director of Strategic Sourcing & Purchasing.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, Finance or other analytical discipline is preferred with Five to Seven years of sourcing experience, or equivalent combination of experience and education, or considerable years of practical experience with background and product knowledge to perform procurement in general and medical commodities.
• A Masters Degree is preferred.
• CPIM, CMRP, CPSM and/or C.P.M. certification preferred.
