Description:
• The incumbent is responsible (for assigned commodities) to manage the supplier base and products purchased from outside sources to conform to STERIS’s engineering document, policies, procedure, work instructions, and ISO/GMP requirements to meet STERIS’s quality, production and corporate procurement requirements.
• The associate in this job function will adhere to purchasing managements established practices and STERIS’s business and management philosophy to carry out the acquisition of required materials, services and equipment.
• The associate must be cognizant of the responsibilities that are inherent in the daily job function and must carry out those duties in an ethical, legal and professional manner that contributes to customer satisfaction.
• The buyer/senior buyer responsibilities do not vary in the scope or function but in the authorization levels and strategic commodity duties assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
• Secures quotes from qualified vendors of assigned materials to obtain most favorable prices and services consistent with quality requirements.
• Purchases product to support M.P. and non inventory requirements.
• Expedites purchase orders in order to maintain material flow and provide customer requests.
• Maintains appropriate purchasing files as required.
• Plans and negotiates long term contracts with favorable impact on inventory goals, quality, continuity of supply and corporate cost objectives.
• Negotiates and facilitates the return of rejected and obsolete material.
• Reconciles Accounts Payable discrepancies.
• Analyzes suppliers for financial health and stability of the Company.
• Assists quality department in assessing the suppliers ability to meet STERIS quality requirements.
• Managing commodity to meet strategic position of the company.
• Selection and maintenance of suppliers to support manufacturing and corporate procurement requirements.
Requirements:
Education/License Requirement:
• B.A. or B.S. Degree in Business or Engineering preferred for Buyer, required for Sr. Buyer.
• CPM or CPIM (certification) preferred.
Experience/Requirements:
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in Purchasing, Quality Control, Engineering, Marketing, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
• A high level of integrity as well as strong interpersonal and communicative skills.
• Must also possess strong negotiating skills.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
Nature of Problem Solving:
• The incumbent will be responsible to resolve any quality, delivery or cost issues in the procurement process of needed material, services or equipment in the Manufacturing, Service or Corporate purchasing requirements.
• The incumbent must use purchasing methodologies in establishing communication links with outside suppliers and STERIS’s Engineering, Manufacturing, Service and Administrative groups.
• The incumbent must be able to negotiate contracts and other legal transactions that involve STERIS and outside providers of goods and services and adhere to established and approved STERIS purchasing policies and procedures.
Empowerment and Decision Making Environment:
• The incumbent will enforce corporate procurement practices and policies (Series 8010 of STERIS’s financial and accounting manual of policies).
• As authorized STERIS purchasing representatives, they have approved and authorized expenditure limits within the STERIS purchasing procedure guidelines.
• The incumbent is empowered to utilize good purchasing practices, policies, and procedures that contribute to STERIS’s goal and objectives that meet STERIS’s Customer satisfaction.
• The incumbent must conduct themselves in a professional manner, have full recognition and be cognizant, that as a STERIS representative with outside firms, companies, or other outside representatives, there are legal ramifications and obligations.
